Garmin express no device found mac11/15/2023 ![]() The Zumo has to be the second or third mounted device. After spending 6 hours trying to load a simple route on to the Zumo, I have a few observations. Would anyone be able to provide a sequence for that? Again, I've followed the steps in Basecamp. The XT does now get recognized by Basecamp, after using the six steps noted in a previous response, but cannot seem to get routes to the XT consistently. the separate segments of the new practice route show up under Saved! No total file that I can select and "GO" to, just the individual segments of the route I created.) It says "complete", but the gpx file doesn't show up on the XT. I follow the transfer process in Basecamp. It shows up in the Android app that I downloaded, it shows up on My Collections in Basecamp, but does not show up on the XT no matter how many times I restart and go through the transfer process. Then I created another route on Ridewithgps for a practice transfer. I also successfully added the MABDR to the XT. I successfully transferred a gpx file of an old route from Ridewithgps (related note - I still cannot get basecamp to create a route, so I used Ridewithgps). You can do this by opening your Spotlight Search using ⌘ Space and then typing Disk Utility.Getting closer, but also still blocked. In this example, we’re looking at the “UNTITLED” drive. You do not want to erase or reformat the wrong drive. This is very important – you will need to erase and reformat this drive. Step 3 – Note the name of the drive for the SD card. ![]() If you don’t see this, STOP! These instructions will not help you. You should see your Mac mount two separate Garmin drives – one for the device itself and the other for the SD card. Step 2 – Connect the Garmin device to your Mac. Follow your product directions to install the SD card. Step 1 – Start by making sure your Garmin device has an SD card installed inside of it. (Note, these steps were performed with a Mac running macOS Big Sur 11.4.) Steps Please pay close attention to the details. ![]() But before you begin, please be careful! Disk Utility is a powerful tool that can erase your data and wipe your hard drive. You can make Disk Utility format your SD drive using the MBR approach. Here’s an article explaining the difference if you want to learn more. ![]() Instead, they seemingly require that SD cards be formatted using an older partition scheme called Master Boot Record (or MBR). It turns out that Macs have been formatting drives using a newer partitioning scheme called GUID that some Garmin devices cannot read. If this advice still doesn’t resolve your problem, then keep reading. First, make sure you review Garmin’s help for when an SD card is not detected. If you’re having a problem getting your Garmin to read an SD card, this may help you. But this year I stumbled across the solution and finally struck pay dirt! Every few years I would try again, only to get frustrated and move on. After a lot of tinkering, I gave up and just made due with the internal storage for managing my maps. I tried multiple other SD cards, uninstalled maps, reinstalled maps, formatted cards, manually copied maps, and more. ![]() I’ve done so much tinkering to fix this problem. I honestly don’t recall exactly what I did, but I did something that broke the SD card entirely. The weird thing is the card would work just fine with the GPS connected to my Mac via a USB cable, but the Garmin itself wouldn’t acknowledge it. This worked well for a while, and then one day I did some data cleanup and the Garmin started ignoring the card entirely when loading maps. I then downloaded a nice selection of maps from GPSFileDepot and OpenStreetMap. When I first got it, I also purchased an SD card to expand its anemic internal storage. I own several Garmin devices, including an older Oregon 600 that I have used for years for hiking and biking. ![]()
